Programs

              

The Natural Land Institute engages in and promotes (not-for-profit) charitable, scientific, and educational activities in the fields of natural history, nature study, conservation and environmental quality. It is dedicated to preserving natural land in northern Illinois for native plants and animals, and the enjoyment and education of people. NLI to date has protected more than 20,000 acres. It does this by preserving natural forests, prairies, and wetlands and the diversity of plants and animals they support, restoring habitat for wildlife, protecting rivers, and streams for fish and other aquatic species, educating people about the wise use of our natural heritage and of the relationship of all life forms to each other and the environment, and providing opportunities to enjoy natural areas that enrich the lives of people. In furtherance of these purposes, the Institute may undertake any appropriate activities, including the following: a. Acquiring and preserving natural land and native species habitat. b. Managing and protecting natural land and native species habitat. c. Maintaining records, reference materials, and collections on natural land and native species habitat. d. Conducting research on natural land and native species and on their ecology and management, and disseminating scientific and technical information thereon. e. Informing the public about natural land and native species preservation and management. f. Engaging in or promoting land preservation, land planning, ecological and natural history research, and other activities relating to conservation of land and preservation of natural conditions. g. Acquiring, holding, or disposing of any real or personal property or interest therein.
