Stated Purpose: The purposes of the Corporation are to serve as an advocate for children who come into contact with the Court system. These are children who are alleged to be dependent, victims of abuse and/or neglect, in need of supervision or in need of treatment. The corporation's goal is to advocate for these children through the court system in Lake County and with the Department of Children and Family Services. The Corporation shall also educate the community regarding the needs of these children, and deficiencies in the judicial and child welfare system in addressing their needs. In carrying out its purposes the Corporation shall comply with any standards established by the national CASA organization and the Illinois CASA organization.

CASA Lake County recruits, trains, and manages volunteers from the local community to work with the courts to advocate for child-victims of abuse or neglect. These volunteers are appointed by the juvenile court judges to a specific child or family of children to monitor living conditions as well as medical, educational, and emotional needs and report back to court on their findings. These reports are used by the judges to make more informed decisions about the best interest of the children while working toward the goal of placement in a safe, stable, permanent home.
