Evaluation Conclusions


DuPage Homeownership Center, Inc. does not meet the following 2 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Standard 14: Budget - Have a board-approved annual budget for its current fiscal year, outlining projected expenses for major program activities, fund raising, and administration.

DuPage Homeownership Center, Inc. does not meet this Standard because, when the organization provided budget information, it indicated that the budget:

  • Included total projected program service expenses, however, did not break these expenses down by major program category.

Standard 16: Annual Report - Have an annual report available to all, on request, that includes: (a) the organization's mission statement, (b) a summary of the past year's program service accomplishments, (c) a roster of the officers and members of the board of directors, (d) financial information that includes (i) total income in the past fiscal year, (ii) expenses in the same program, fund raising and administrative categories as in the financial statements, and (iii) ending net assets.

DuPage Homeownership Center, Inc. does not meet this standard because:

  • The organization states it does not have an annual report covering activities conducted in the past year.
In addition, the BBB of Chicago & Northern Illinois requested but did not receive complete information on the organization’s governance and oversight, effectiveness measures, solicitation materials, and donor privacy and is unable to verify the organization's compliance with the following 7Standards for Charity Accountability: 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 15, and 18.

For 25 years, the DuPage Homeownership Center (DHOC) has been serving the needs of DuPage County. In 1991 DHOC was created to “Promote and Preserve Homeownership for low and moderate-income clients in DuPage”. By providing pre and post-home purchase education and individual counseling, DHOC has helped many achieve their dream of home ownership. As administrators of the DuPage County Homestead Grant Program, DHOC has helped borrowers with limited assets get the extra boost they needed to purchase their first home.
