The Project was formed in 2004 and is based in Louisville, where it works throughout the region. The Project works with local, state and national partners to impact the region, state, and country. The work the organization does is vast: policy work aimed at increasing screening rates and advocating for funds for the uninsured and under-insured people so they have access to screening. The Project oversees relationships with physicians and facilities who are donating services to help uninsured and under-insured people in the community get screened. The organization travels around the community with the giant inflatable colon at health fairs and events to provide community education on the risks of colon cancer and screening guidelines. The Project's major focus is community outreach and increasing screening rates in Kentucky.
