It is the only organization in Louisville and the surrounding counties that provides these free civil legal services. Clients turn to Legal Aid for civil legal problems that threaten their health and safety and the stability of their families. Those assisted include the elderly, children, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable groups.

Legal Aid Society programs and services include: Support for Families: Programs that address issues related to domestic violence and kinship care. These include Family Advocacy Program and Grandparents as Caregivers Program. Preserving the Home: Programs that address issues related to eviction, foreclosure, community development, disruption of a child's education due to relocation, and tenant rights. These include Eviction Prevention Program, Foreclosure Prevention Program, Tenants in Crisis Program, and Community Development Program. Promoting Economic Stability: Programs that help families escape poverty and achieve financial security. These include Economic Stability and Advocacy Program, Low Income Taxpayer Clinic, and Fresh Start Program. Safety, Stability, and Health: Programs that offer the legal advice and protection clients need to feel stable and secure. These include Homeless Outreach Program, Community Development, and Doctors and Lawyers for Kids. Populations with Special Vulnerabilities: Programs that address issues related to the rights of people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS, seniors and end-of-life planning, and veterans. These include HIV/AIDS Legal Project, Senior Self-Determination and Advocacy Program, and Volunteer Lawyers for Veterans.
